Soooooo, this blog will no longer focus on my exchange student experience as there won’t be one.  Long story short – the company I went with has THEWORSTCUSTOMERSERVICEEVER!  Plus, the local high school refused to take a student for half of the year, they wanted someone to stay for the whole year.  I guess it just wasn’t in the cards. I’m extremely bummed, as I totally had my heart set on welcoming Valentina into my home for 6 months, not to mention I went out and purchased numerous items to improve our guest room, ugh.  So now I have a great spare room, and no one to fill it.  Anyone wanna come to HI??

For future reference, never use AYUSA to try and get an exchange student!  I shall now endure the next seven months while hubby is deployed with my wonderful pets and great friends!  Speaking of which, I have a bone to pick with my sis… She insisted that her friend’s dogs were the most ADORABLE dogs in the world.  I would like to correct that statement and say that my dog, Lily, is the most ADORABLE dog in the world.

Case in point.

Case in point.

Best. Dog. Ever.

Best. Dog. Ever.

Anywho, now that that is settled, we can move on.  So since no exchange student, I guess my blog will just be filled with random musings.  I guess I should give a little update on hubby… after being delayed by several days, he officially left for Afghanistan last Friday.  It was really sad to see him go, and I think it’s safe to say the next seven months will not be the same without him :.(  I am now counting down the days til my trip home!

On that happy note, I’m signing off.  Stay tuned for more random musings….

Ahh, if only I were back in Italy… instead I’ve decided to bring Italy to me!  In a few weeks we’ll welcome an Italian exchange student into our home.  We…well really just me…hubby will be deployed, but I’ll address that in another post.  For now, let me share some details about our student and why I decided to start this blog.  Valentina is her name.  I don’t know if that’s a common Italian name, but I think it’s adorable!  She is 17, a high school senior, and attends a linguistics school in Italy.  She speaks 4 languages, and from what I can gather from her paperwork is quite good with her English.

That’s all I have to go on right now, her paperwork.  I’m still waiting for my background check to clear before they will release her contact info to me.  Hmm, i hope that bank robbery from a few years back doesn’t hurt my chances, hehe.

Anywho, she also plays guitar and skateboards-basically the things I always wanted to do as a teenager had I not been so involved with dance.  I’m hoping we will get along great, but it should prove to be an interesting few months!  Hence the blog… I thought it would be a good idea to blog about the experience, not only to share with others, but so that I have something I can look back at.  Have a way to record all of the little things that aren’t always captured in pictures or that you forget as time goes on.  On a sidenote, I wish I had done this for my trip to Italy last year with mom and sis.  I bought a journal that I had every intention of writing in each night, but that didn’t happen.  Maybe I’ll include some things in here as I remember them…

So that’s it for now.  I hope to find out next week when she’ll arrive and be able to start corresponding with her.  It’s a bittersweet time for me – hubby leaving, V arriving – sad, nervous, and excited all at the same time.  Wish me luck with V, and keep my hubby and all our troops in your prayers.  Til next time…

Cheers! Jeska
